About the project

Tanz.Transformator is a one-year open and inclusive dance project of Beatrix Cultural Center in Skopje. In the course of 2023, recognized foreign and local choreographers will work with ambitious emerging and established dancers from the country on inspiring productions, which will be staged in Skopje and touring to several other cities in the region.

About us

Tanz.Transformator is a project of Beatrix Cultural Center in Skopje. Beatrix Cultural Center was founded by Ivana Balabanova, the resident choreographer of Tanz.Transformator, in Skopje, North Maceodnia. The center provides opportunities for collaboration between local, regional, and international artists and it is known for its investment and activism in developing platforms oriented towards knowledge exchange and artistic production. In the last years, the center has collaborated with many partners including: the Ministry of Culture, the City of Skopje, The Municipality of Centar, UNICEF, the Delegation of the EU in North Macedonia & Europe House, the U.S. Embassy in North Macedonia, Centar-Jadro and the international platform Kooperativa and now the Embassy of Switzerland in North Macedonia. Some of the platforms that have been established are: “Beatrix Dance League” – 8 editions (international dance camp and festival), “Festival for choreographic miniatures” – 2 editions, “Beatrix Specials” – 5 editions (Open workshops for the community from local and regional teachers), “Beatrix Dance Caravan” – 3 editions (Open workshops at all dance centers in North Macedonia), “VADA” – Virtual American Dance Academy, etc. 

In the past, the centar was solely focused on the development of the semi-professional dance community, whereas in the last three years, its projects are focused on the development of the professional dance community, aiming to create context for job opportunities and performance production. As a result, the center has developed the project Tanz.Transformator. This project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation. It envisions three professional dance productions, out of which two with international choreographers and one with a  local choreographer. The productions will be open for 7 selected dancers during the three-day open workshops at the beginning of each production.
